529 Savings Plans Now Available for K through 12 Grades

One of the changes with the new tax bill that seems to be less discussed is the new change to the plan that allows tuition for kindergarten through 12 grades as well as books to be deducted now.  Additionally now it appears you can "superfund" an account where a large lump sum can be put in and then the tax benefits can be used for the entire term that the student is in school.  The NY Times has a great write up here that is work looking at.  This seems to be pretty good news for parents and guardians who send their kids to private schools.

I ran across a group of 18 videos called Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids that are designed to teach the basics of money management and also to introduce some additional concepts that deal with actual investing versus just saving.  As a parent I try to teach these fundamentals to my kids, but this is a reasonably entertaining way of going through these concepts.  My kids did actually sit though all 18 videos with me in one sitting, so they are short and seem to hold their attention.  It is worth a quick view if you are looking to develop good investing traits in your children.
